Sphero tour

As you may have read from some of my previous blog posts, My class has gone to Sovereign hill and made a diorama of it. Once we made the diorama, we coded a sphero to roll through the streets of Mini Sovereign hill.

This top video is a video about my map of Sovereign hill:
And the bottom video is the sphero giving us a tour of our Sovereign hill city!

What do you think of the tour? What’s it interesting?

5B Diorama Map

We’ve been on a cam to Sovereign hill this term and have made a diorama of it. Once we made the diorama, we made an exact replica map of the diorama. This is what my one looks like:

Have you made a diorama of any thing?    Have you made a map?     Send me a photo of either one.

Carey shortlist voting

This term, we have been reading some of the shortlisted books for this year and giving them a rating out of 10 for their pictures, their given information and their layout. The books we voted for were: M.C Escher for kids, Sorry day, Bouncing back, Happiness box, Our birds and Waves. All these books are non-fiction, hence why I said ‘rating them on their given information.’

My favourite shortlist book was the M.C Escher for kids, because it gives a lot of information, it has drawings and it is really interesting, because it has everything that I’m looking for in a good information book.

What I think makes a good information book is: that it gives its information in a clear structure, and that it makes it interesting, so with colour, a bit of humour, and a few pictures so that it isn’t all text.

What’s your favourite shortlist book? What did you vote for?

Camp at Super Sovereign hill

Year 5 Sovereign Hill camp

On the 22nd of July, the year fives at Carey went to Sovereign Hill for our first camp of the year.

We learnt that some mines go all the way down to about 3 kilometres deep! We also learnt that in the school in the 1850s in Ballarat, Australia.  It was harsh, it was brutal, it was……

……actually not that bad. Although she was strict, we got free muffins and and cookies from Ma’am.

Some PLA’S I showed during camp were: resilience when I realised I couldn’t buy that cowboy hat that I really wanted, courage when I went in the mine shafts, and knowledge when I picked up the 12 times tables.

One of my favourite moments was when the Inspector came and questioned Leo about his dad’s hearing. Leo said he didn’t have good hearing and when the Inspector asked Leo’s ‘dad’ (because his dad is a blacksmith) to shod his horse, he thought the Inspector said shot, and killed his horse! (All make believe didn’t really happen)

I think to enhance the experience at Sovereign Hill, we could have a little bit of extra money to spend on stuff. Other than that it was the greatest camp of all time.

You go to Sovereign Hill. What do you think about it?
